The ANC’s Interim Privincial Committee in the North West will participate in the party’s ninth elective conference. This is according to the Obed Bapela, who is the ruling party’s national executive committee (NEC) deployee to the province. “The first item on the agenda today will be the court interdict. The collective understanding is that the conference is not interdicted. The only affected party is your IPC members. The IPC has however not been dissolved. They will participate in the conference but only as non-voting delegates” said Bapela.
He said the National Executive Committee will take over some of the tasks of the IPC. “The IPC will still be the functioning power of the body and will continue some of their tasks, like presenting some of the reports. However, the NEC will help with the closing statement” he said.
Bapela has also noted that the conference had been marred by delays but was certain that it would commence in no time. “There have been technical delays as we has to clean the administration of delegates. But right now almost 80% of the delegates have been credited and therefore the conference will start in no time” he said.
He also highlighted that IPC members who are contesting will still be allowed to contest. “If they are members of ANC and are in good standing and qualify, they are still allowed to contest” he concluded.
The conference is expected to officially be opened by deputy president David Mabuza.
