72-Year-Old Landlord Arrested for Allegedly Killing Tenant over water and electricity

Hartbeespoortdam police, in collaboration with Brits Crime Intelligence, have arrested a 72-year-old landlord in connection with the fatal shooting of his 66-year-old tenant on Sunday, 22 September 2024. The incident occurred on a plot outside Hartbeespoortdam, near Brits, following a dispute over electricity and water.

According to police reports, the tenant confronted his landlord after discovering that his home had no electricity or water. During the heated argument that followed, the landlord allegedly entered his house, retrieved a firearm, and shot the tenant in the upper body.

The suspect fled the scene, while the victim was transported to a hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.

In an intelligence-driven operation, police tracked the suspect to the Skeerport area, where he was arrested. Authorities
