Rustenburg Mayor Promises Swift Resolution to Platinum View Water Crisis

The Executive Mayor of Rustenburg Local Municipality, Shiela Mabale-Huma, assured the residents of Platinum View that their ongoing water crisis will be resolved soon. Accompanied by the MMC for Infrastructure, Thabang Rampou, the Municipal Manager, Adv Ashmar Khuduge, and other municipal officials, the mayor addressed the concerned residents following a disruption at the council sitting on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Platinum Village residents stormed the civic centre, disrupting the council meeting to voice their frustrations over the persistent water shortages. Law enforcement agencies were called to manage the situation.

In response, the municipality held a meeting on Wednesday to provide feedback to the residents. The Executive Mayor, alongside the Municipal Manager, had met with representatives from Impala Platinum Mine to discuss potential solutions to the water crisis.

Mayor Mabale-Huma updated the residents on the outcomes of the meeting with Impala Platinum Mine, emphasizing the commitment to finding a permanent resolution. She also pledged to hold a follow-up meeting with the residents once a concrete solution has been agreed upon by all parties involved.

As an interim measure, water tankers will be deployed to Platinum View starting tomorrow to alleviate the immediate water shortage.
