As the Nation’s Polling Event 2024 (NPE2024) unfolds across South Africa, initial results indicate a promising start for the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Province. According to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), as of 4:00 PM today, the ANC holds the lead with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) following in second place, and the Democratic Alliance (DA) in third, after counting 36% of the votes.

In a media briefing held this afternoon, the IEC confirmed that the final ballots were cast early this morning at the Arcadia Swimbad voting station in Tshwane, marking the conclusion of voting nationwide. The commission upheld its commitment to ensure all voters in queues by 9:00 PM were able to cast their ballots.
Shortly after midnight, the IEC announced the first official result from a voting district in the Winnie Madikizela Mandela Municipality, Eastern Cape. As of 3:00 PM, the majority of voting stations have completed their counting processes, with only a few remaining.

The meticulous process of compiling results involves scanning each result slip, conducting double-blind captures, independent auditing, and external audits of the result system, ensuring accuracy and transparency. By 4:00 PM, results from 22.6% of the 23,292 voting districts were fully processed, accounting for approximately 2.3 million votes.
The breakdown of result capture rates by province are as follows: Gauteng at 28%, Limpopo 26%, North West leading at 36%, Northern Cape at 63%, Free State 56%, KwaZulu-Natal 23%, Mpumalanga 42%, Eastern Cape 58%, and Western Cape 57%.
With counting ongoing and results trickling in, all eyes remain on the final outcome of NPE2024, shaping the political landscape of South Africa for the years to come.
