The North West Department of Human Settlements has solidified its collaboration with the Rustenburg Local Municipality in an effort to streamline housing functions and enhance service delivery within the region. This partnership was formalized through the signing of a Level Two Municipal Accreditation Implementation Protocol during the provincial government’s Accelerated Service Delivery Programme, Thuntsha Lerole.

The agreement empowers the Rustenburg Local Municipality to take on a more proactive role in packaging and executing human settlements projects, thereby aiming to expedite project turnaround times and improve efficiency in service delivery.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, North West Acting Premier and MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements, and Traditional Affairs, Patrick Dumile Nono Maloyi, emphasized the significance of this collaboration in bolstering the municipality’s capacity to implement development plans aligned with human settlements and housing objectives.

“The partnership with Rustenburg Local Municipality is designed to enhance their administrative capabilities, enabling them to manage and oversee housing programmes independently,” stated Acting Premier Maloyi. He further highlighted that the department has already engaged a service provider to support the municipality in fulfilling these responsibilities effectively.
Under the terms of the agreement, the municipality will assume full programme management and administration of all housing instruments and programmes, with full support and guidance from the Department of Human Settlements. This initiative aims to ensure that residents of Rustenburg receive efficient and quality housing services.
“We have full confidence in the Rustenburg Local Municipality’s ability to deliver on their mandate to provide adequate housing and human settlements,” Maloyi affirmed. Moving forward, both entities will collaboratively identify and prioritize human settlements projects to be implemented by the municipality under this agreement.
