ANC and BCM Reunite, Sign Coalition Partnership Agreement in Rustenburg

After a period of estrangement, the African National Congress (ANC) and the Botho Community Movement (BCM) have officially reunited today at the Rustenburg Civic Centre, marking a significant moment in local politics. The reconciliation comes as both parties acknowledge the success of their previous coalition during the administration of 2016-2021 and seek to build on that foundation.

ANC Provincial Secretary, Louis Diremelo, hailed the partnership as a positive step, particularly as the country approaches Provincial and National elections in May. Diremelo emphasized that the Coalition Partnership Agreement between the ANC and BCM is not only a symbol of unity but also a commitment to expedite service delivery, addressing critical issues such as healthcare, water access, unemployment, and more.

“We are pleased to join forces with the Botho Community Movement once again,” stated Diremelo. “Together, we aim to make tangible improvements in the lives of our constituents, ensuring that their needs are met effectively and efficiently.”

In addition to outlining their shared goals for service delivery, the Coalition Partnership Agreement also includes provisions for the allocation of positions within the government. ANC Regional Chairperson, Shiela Mabale-Huma, confirmed that BCM will be granted a Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) position, underscoring the ANC’s commitment to inclusivity and collaboration.

BCM President, Ofentse Kombe, expressed his satisfaction with the renewed alliance, highlighting the importance of having a voice in governance. “Sitting on the opposition benches was futile,” remarked Kombe. “Now, with a service delivery commitment from the ANC, we can better serve the residents of Boitekong and make meaningful contributions to our community.”

As part of the realignment, the ANC announced its decision to terminate its ties with ARONA, paving the way for a new Coalition Partnership Agreement. The new coalition will comprise the ANC, Boitekong Community Movement, Forum for Service Delivery (F4SD), African Independent Congress (AIC), and Independent representatives, signaling a reshaping of political alliances in the region.
