The African National Congress (ANC) in Bojanala Region has expressed deep disappointment and dismay over the conduct of certain ANC councillors in Moses Kotane Local Municipality who continue to defy the party’s instructions.
Despite repeated attempts by the Regional Executive Committee (REC) to communicate the ANC’s stance regarding the appointment of a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) accused of fraud and corruption relating to the VBS saga, some councillors have blatantly defied these instructions. Efforts by the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) to urge the ANC Caucus to rescind the decision were met with resistance, with some councillors even pledging to resign rather than comply.
This defiance, according to ANC Bojanala , is a clear strategy aimed at undermining the party’s electoral victory in the 2021 Local Government Election. Despite securing an outright majority, granting the ANC direct authority in the municipality’s leadership, certain councillors have opted to disregard party directives.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 20 February 2024 ANC Bojanala emphasized that the actions of these councillors are intended to reverse the party’s electoral victory and erode public confidence. The party condemned such behavior as counter-revolutionary and warned against attempts to reverse democratic gains.
