In a closely watched electoral contest, the African National Congress (ANC) successfully retained its stronghold in Ward 18 of the Moses Kotane Municipality. Orapeleng Stoffel Setlhodi emerged victorious, securing 66.92% of the total votes cast in the recent municipal by-election held on Wednesday, 24 April 2024.

The ANC’s victory signifies a continuation of its dominance in the region, although there was a slight decrease in support compared to the previous municipal elections held in 2021. In 2021, the ANC garnered 70.65% of the votes in the same ward.
The electoral battle in Ward 18 was keenly contested, with several parties vying for the seat. However, Setlhodi’s victory reinforces the ANC’s position as the leading political force in the area.

The outcome of the by-election reaffirms the ANC’s resilience in Moses Kotane Municipality and underscores the party’s ability to mobilize support even in the face of changing political dynamics. However, it also highlights the importance of continuous engagement and responsiveness to the needs of the electorate to ensure sustained political success.
With the ANC securing another victory in Ward 18, attention now turns to the broader implications for local governance and the party’s prospects in future elections in the North West Province.
