The North West Province is continuing to dominate marathons in South Africa. Hardly months after Tete Dijana won Comrades Marathon, another North West sensation, Stephen Mokoka won Cape Town Marathon.
Mokoka who was born and bred at Ramatlabama, Six Hundred in Mahikeng Local Municipality has been dominating the Marathon for the third consecutive year.
Mokoka began competing internationally in 2005. He formerly held the fifty (50) km world record and has represented the country in various internationally acclaimed events which includes the 2012 London Olympics.
In his maiden State of the Province Address Premier Bushy Maape likened the resilience and enthusiasm of the people of the province to people like Mokoka.
“As the North West we are excited at these news. Mokoka is one of our greatest exports. This continues to demonstrate that the investment we made as the province to nurture people like Mokoka while a student at Batloung High School at Ramatlabama is paying dividends,” said Maape.
