Bishop Daniel Matebesi Laid to Rest in Mahikeng


Mahikeng came to a standstill today as scores of mourners gathered to bid farewell to the late Bishop Daniel Matebesi, who was laid to rest following a solemn funeral service held at the Great Grace Church.


The service was attended by family members, church leaders, congregants, community members, and dignitaries from across the North West Province, reflecting the deep respect and influence Bishop Matebesi commanded during his lifetime.


North West Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi attended the funeral and delivered an address, paying tribute to the late bishop’s spiritual leadership, commitment to community development, and unwavering service to the people of the province. Mokgosi described Bishop Matebesi as a man of faith who played a meaningful role in guiding communities through prayer, counsel, and moral leadership.


“Bishop Matebesi was not only a church leader but a pillar of strength in society. His contribution to spiritual growth and social cohesion will be remembered for generations,” the Premier said.
Throughout the service, speakers highlighted Bishop Matebesi’s dedication to the church and his passion for uplifting the lives of others. Hymns, prayers, and words of comfort filled the church as mourners reflected on his legacy.
The funeral service took place in Mahikeng, where Bishop Matebesi was well known and widely respected.
As the final rites were observed, the atmosphere was one of deep sorrow mixed with gratitude for a life devoted to faith and service.
