Ten students from disadvantaged backgrounds in the Bojanala Platinum District have been awarded fully funded bursaries by the municipality, with the added benefit of internship opportunities upon graduation.

In a move aimed at bridging the gap between education and employment, Executive Mayor Susan Nthangeni announced that the municipality will amend its internal policies to ensure that bursary recipients can gain valuable work experience through internships at the municipality after completing their studies.

“We want to create opportunities beyond just funding their education. These students will have a chance to apply their skills within the municipality, making them more employable,” said Nthangeni.

Among the top achievers is Reneilwe Morake (18) from Sandfontein, Moruleng, who achieved five distinctions and is now pursuing a BCom in Accounting at the University of Johannesburg. To support her academic journey, the municipality provided her with a tablet alongside her bursary.

The bursary program not only covers tuition and study materials but also guarantees that these students will receive practical training within the municipality, ensuring they gain the necessary experience to enter the job market confidently.

This initiative marks a significant step in empowering young people from underprivileged backgrounds, equipping them with both education and work experience to secure a brighter future.
