Chinese Delegation visit Kgomo Kgomo Village to Explore Investment Opportunities

Kgomo Kgomo Village, located in the Moretele Local Municipality, today – Tuesday 13 August 2024 hosted a high-profile delegation from Zhejiang Province, China. The delegation, consisting of eight officials and entrepreneurs, was led by Zhao Meiling, the President of Women’s Empowerment in Zhejiang. Their visit aimed to strengthen ties between South Africa and China, with a focus on investment opportunities in key sectors.

The Chinese delegation was warmly welcomed by North West Premier Lazarus Mokgosi, MEC for Education Viola Motsumi, Moretele Local Municipality Mayor Masango George Manyike, local councilors, and Kgosi Nchaupe wa Boraro.

In his address, Premier Mokgosi emphasized the significance of the visit, stating, “South Africa is one of the main economies of the African continent and has often been said to be the gateway to Africa. This is an opportunity to match Chinese businesses with local people and help bring much-needed investment into the country. This will help us in fighting some of our most critical challenges, including unemployment and the lack of youth development. This will also lead to the transfer of key skills into our local economy, as we know China is one of the leading technology-producing countries in the world.”

Zhao Meiling outlined the Chinese delegation’s objectives, highlighting their interest in investing in health, education, infrastructure, and agricultural development. She expressed their commitment to using Kgomo Kgomo as a model for poverty reduction programs, with the goal of transforming the village into an urban area. “We will start with school projects and a clinic, laying the foundation for further development,” said Meiling.
