Today, the Council Chamber of the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality was abuzz with activity as the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) in the North West province initiated a series of one-on-one engagement sessions with municipalities. The inaugural session aimed to assess the state of affairs within the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality, evaluate the effectiveness of existing improvement plans, and foster collaboration and accountability.

The engagement, which commenced on the 5th of February, is scheduled to continue until the 9th of February 2024, encompassing all municipalities within the North West province. The overarching goal is to ensure transparency and efficiency in local governance, ultimately enhancing service delivery to residents.
Key stakeholders present at the engagement included officials from COGTA at both the provincial and national levels, the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), and representatives from the Treasury, among others. Their collective expertise and oversight aim to provide comprehensive support to municipalities as they navigate challenges and implement strategies for improvement.

This proactive approach underscores COGTA’s commitment to promoting good governance and sustainable development at the grassroots level. By engaging directly with municipalities, COGTA seeks to identify areas for enhancement, streamline processes, and reinforce the principles of accountability and transparency.
As the engagement sessions unfold across the province, stakeholders anticipate constructive dialogue, actionable insights, and tangible outcomes that will contribute to the advancement of local governance in the North West.
