Coligny Man Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Ex-Girlfriend 15 Times

The Coligny community has been left in shock following the brutal killing of Binny King (34), allegedly at the hands of her ex-boyfriend, Petrus Bassion Mvala (47). The incident took place on Tuesday, 24 December 2024, in Extension 3, Tlhabologang, near Coligny.

According to initial police reports, Mvala allegedly called King to his vehicle, where they sat and spoke before the situation turned violent. It is alleged that Mvala attacked King, stabbing her over 15 times with a sharp object. King managed to escape the vehicle and was rushed to a local clinic but was declared dead shortly after arrival.

Police arrested Mvala following the incident. He appeared before the Lichtenburg Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 27 December 2024, where he was remanded in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, 30 December 2024.

The police have urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.

The tragedy has sparked conversations in the community about gender-based violence and the need for stronger measures to protect vulnerable individuals. Local leaders have expressed condolences to King’s family and called for justice to prevail.
