The ANC NW elective conference has been nothing short of controversy. The conference which has been postponed three time before, saw a court interdict on Friday night which prevented IPC members from voting. It has now emerged that there has been a breach of security. Speaking during a media briefing, national executive committee member Nomvula Mokonyane said a number of cloned delegate tags had been uncovered. “There were two incidents that happened. There were individuals who invaded the registration centre, and grabbed our administrators, took away the tags and we know those tags because those were the tags that were supposed to be distributed now that there has been the readjustment of the delegates” Mokonyane said.
She said a criminal case had been opened against the individuals. Fortunately there is also footage and we hope that as the organization we will be able to exercise discipline over and above laying criminal charges against those individuals” she said.
She said the “self correcting” ANC had stepped up their system security. She said: “over and above the ones we have seen, and have been circulated, some of them held by the youth league members, we can confirm that these ones are not our tags because they do not have the features.” She said this conference’s tags had a three way verification feature.
She has further condemned the incident and said it sought to undermine a process the party had invested a lot of time on.
