The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the North West has elected a new provincial leadership team during its Provincial Congress held on Saturday in Potchefstroom.

The congress brought together delegates from across the province under the theme “A Strong DA Ready to Govern in the North West”, as the party positions itself ahead of the 2026 local government elections.

Freddy Sonakile was elected Provincial Leader, with Luan Snyders elected as Deputy Provincial Leader. Carin Visser was elected Provincial Chairperson, while Erna Rossouw was elected Deputy Provincial Chairperson. CJ Steyl was elected Provincial Finance Chairperson.

The congress also adopted several resolutions aimed at improving organisational capacity, enhancing oversight of municipal governance, and preparing the party for future electoral contests.

Delegates emphasised service delivery, job creation and ethical leadership as key priorities for the DA in the North West.

The proceedings were livestreamed on the DA North West’s digital platforms, allowing supporters across the province to follow the congress.
