Development in Lekgalong Hinges on Available Land for Schools and Clinic

In a bid to address the pressing need for schools and a clinic in Lekgalong authorities are facing a unique challenge – a shortage of available land. This critical issue was highlighted by Karabo Phutu, the MMC for Local Economic Development in the Rustenburg Local Municipality.

Phutu made these remarks while addressing residents of Ikageng and Lekgalong during the Mayoral Imbizo held earlier this afternoon. The event was part of an outreach program led by the Executive Mayor, Shiela Mabale-Huma, aimed at addressing pressing community issues. The outreach program has seen the officials visiting several wards around the municipality, engaging with residents on various topics of concern.

The crux of the matter, as explained by Karabo Phutu, is the scarcity of land in Lekgalong due to the rapid sale of land by private landowners without allocating space for essential facilities such as schools and clinics. This predicament has raised questions about the feasibility of accommodating the growing population’s needs in the region.

Phutu revealed that negotiations are currently underway between the government and landowners in an effort to find common ground. These discussions are crucial in determining if a solution can be reached to secure land for much-needed schools and clinics in Lekgalong.

Furthermore, Phutu shared that the pressing issue of the Clinic’s location has already seen some progress. The Clinic was initially intended for Lekgalong, but it is now being considered for relocation to extend Rankelenyane Clinic. “This strategic move aims to better serve the healthcare needs of the community,” said Phutu.

The challenges facing Lekgalong, particularly regarding land allocation for essential facilities, are expected to be a focal point of discussion as local authorities work closely with residents to find a sustainable solution. The collective efforts of community leaders, local government officials, and landowners will play a pivotal role in determining the future development and wellbeing of Lekgalong’s residents.
