EmpowaWomen, in partnership with the Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA), hosted the highly successful EmpowaWomen in Transport Summit on October 2, 2024, at Sun City. This event, held in observance of National Transport Month, gathered hundreds of women from the transport and logistics sectors for a day of empowerment, innovation, and leadership.

The summit provided a powerful platform for women to engage in insightful discussions, hands-on workshops, and crucial networking opportunities, with a focus on advancing gender equality and expanding women’s roles in the traditionally male-dominated transport industry.

Key highlights of the summit included:
Panel Discussion: The Business of Transport: From Ship to Shelf – Industry experts explored the entire transport value chain, focusing on how women can lead in sectors from logistics to distribution.

Dialogue: Revolutionising Road Transport: Driving Economic Growth – The session addressed innovation in road transport, underscoring the vital role women play in driving economic growth.
Panel Discussion: Soaring High: Women in Aviation – Female trailblazers in aviation shared their experiences and discussed strategies to increase women’s representation in the aviation industry.

Dumi Le Roux, Head of EmpowaYouth, praised the success of the summit, stating: “The Women in Transport Summit is more than just a gathering—it’s a movement to create real change. The conversations we’ve had, the connections we’ve fostered, and the innovations we’ve explored will pave the way for women to lead in transport across South Africa.”
TETA CEO, Maphefo Anno-Frempong, expressed pride in the partnership with EmpowaWomen: “We are thrilled to have been part of such an impactful event. The event also emphasized the transport sector’s crucial role as a cornerstone of South Africa’s economy. Attendees from across the North West and Mpumalanga provinces were introduced to the wide range of opportunities available to women in the industry, further cementing the summit’s success.
Looking ahead, EmpowaWomen has announced plans to host another Women in Transport Summit later this October, continuing its mission to drive progress and inclusion in the sector.
