The Executive Mayor of Rustenburg, Shiela Mabale-Huma, together with the MEC of Health, Sello Lehari, paid a visit to the Phelophepa Healthcare Train on Monday. The mobile healthcare facility, renowned for its comprehensive medical services, has been a beacon of hope for communities across South Africa, offering vital health services directly to underserved areas.

During the visit, Mayor Mabale-Huma and MEC Lehari embarked on a walk-about through the train’s various coaches, which are equipped to provide general health check-ups, dental care, and eye examinations. The Phelophepa Train, often referred to as a “miracle train,” has become synonymous with accessible healthcare, particularly in remote areas where medical facilities are limited.
In addition to its core medical services, the train offers individual counselling sessions facilitated by the Aurum Institute. These sessions provide crucial mental health support, addressing psychological issues within the community. The train also hosts group workshops designed to help individuals cope with mental health challenges, further solidifying its role as a holistic healthcare provider.

Special emphasis is placed on health education within the train. Dedicated coaches are available where members of the local community can attend classes on essential health topics such as nutrition, hygiene, and dental care. These educational sessions aim to empower individuals with the knowledge needed to maintain and improve their health.
The visit was also attended by members of the Mayoral Committee of Rustenburg, with MMC Tebogo Kibini representing the Bojanala District Municipality on behalf of the Executive Mayor. The presence of these officials underscores the importance of the Phelophepa Healthcare Train and the role it plays in addressing the healthcare needs of the community.
As the Phelophepa Train continues its journey through various regions, it remains a critical resource in the fight for better health outcomes, ensuring that even the most remote communities have access to the care they need.
