Flood Relief Efforts Bring Hope to Affected Families in Rustenburg

In a heartwarming display of community solidarity, the Rustenburg Local Municipality (RLM), Al Imdaad Foundation, and Royal Bafokeng Administration (RBA) extended a helping hand to 28 families in Chaneng and four families in Tlhabane who were severely affected by floods over the past weekend.

The collaborative relief efforts provided essential items, including hygiene packs, emergency food parcels, and blankets, to alleviate the victims’ hardships. The distribution program was overseen by prominent local leaders, including RLM Ward Councillor Eric Langeni, RBA Traditional Leader of Macharora, Kgosana Tommy Mntande, RLM MMC for Public Safety and Disaster Management Virginia Mputle, and the municipality’s Disaster Management team.

Various other stakeholders played pivotal roles in the relief initiative. The Department of Social Development, SASSA, and the Bojanala District Red Cross Society ensured comprehensive support for affected families. Al Imdaad Foundation’s North West Provincial Coordinator, Mr. M. Karani, along with the Gauteng Team led by Ml. Ansaar from the AIF National Office, also contributed to the success of the program.

Speaking at the event, Mputle emphasized the importance of swift and coordinated disaster response efforts. “We are committed to working together as government and stakeholders to provide immediate support and long-term solutions for our vulnerable communities,” she said.

The affected families expressed gratitude for the assistance, noting that the timely intervention brought much-needed relief during this challenging time.

The Rustenburg Local Municipality and its partners reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening disaster management strategies and fostering partnerships to better prepare for and respond to future emergencies.
