Former Bojanala Platinum District Municipality Manager, Patrick Shikwane made a brief appearance in the Rustenburg Regional Court today, 19 September 2022.

Shikwane has been charged with two counts of contravening section 173 of the Municipal Finance Management Act and was granted R10 000 bail.
According to the police, during December 2017, Shikwane, who was the Acting Municipal Manager
at Bojanala Platinum District Municipality appointed a company called Big Time Strategy as
consultant’s to audit the information technology services. According to court papers, Big Time Strategy was appointed irregularly and an amount of R2,5 million was paid for the services not needed. During the audit by the Auditor General, it was found that, the company was irregularly
appointed and the municipality could not justify the appointment and further that there was no
proof that the service was rendered.

The AG recommended that the former municipal manager should be reported to the law
enforcement agency for investigation. A case of fraud and contravention of MFMA was registered
and investigated by the North West: Serious Corruption Investigation.
The Executive Mayor of Bojanala Platinum District Municipality, Nondzaba Matlakala welcomed the arrest and appealed to the community to allow law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter and conclude it.
