Former SGB Chairperson Arrested for Alleged Selling School’s Jobs

Members of the Serious Corruption Investigation Unit arrested a 41-year-old suspect in Lichtenburg on Thursday, 26 September 2024, for alleged corruption involving job placements at a local primary school.

The suspect, a former School Governing Body (SGB) chairperson, is accused of soliciting bribes from four individuals in exchange for securing them positions as Administration Clerks and teacher assistants at a primary school in Lichtenburg.

Investigations revealed that between 2022 and 2023, the suspect accepted various amounts of money from the complainants in return for promising to secure them employment. According to reports, one complainant paid the suspect R14,500, another R10,000, while the remaining two paid R1,000 each.

The investigation unit acted on these complaints, leading to the suspect’s arrest. The case has sparked outrage in the local community, with calls for stronger measures to combat corruption in school governance.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon to face charges of corruption. Authorities have urged members of the public to report any similar cases of bribery or corruption to help curb such illegal practices in public institutions.

The investigation remains ongoing.
