Forty Suspects Arrested in Vala Umgodi Operations in Bojanala

Forty individuals were arrested during a series of integrated Vala Umgodi operations conducted between Sunday, 29 September 2024, and Tuesday, 2 October 2024, in Hartbeespoortdam, Mooinooi, Tlhabane, and Sun City.

The suspects were apprehended for violating Section 49 (1)(a) of the Immigration Act (Act No. 13 of 2002). This section deals with the unlawful entry and presence of individuals within South Africa without the necessary permits.

On Tuesday, 1 October 2024, fourteen of the suspects appeared before the Brits Magistrates’ Court. The court ruled that they remain in custody until their next appearance on Thursday, 3 October and Friday, 4 October 2024.

The remaining 26 suspects are scheduled to appear before the Mankwe and Bafokeng Magistrates’ Courts on Thursday, 3 October 2024, to face charges related to their contraventions.

The Vala Umgodi operations, aimed at combating illegal activities and enforcing immigration laws, continue to play a crucial role in upholding law and order in the North West Province. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the region.
