Four people, including two civil servants, died in a horrific head-on collision on the N4 between Moedwil and the Koster junction on Wednesday evening, October 9, 2024. The crash, which occurred around 17:00, claimed the lives of three men and one woman instantly.

According to initial reports, two of the deceased were civil servants working in the crime prevention cluster. They were among three passengers in one of the vehicles involved. The other vehicle, which had two occupants, also saw both passengers perish at the scene. One of the drivers miraculously survived but sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

The accident caused traffic disruptions, with only one lane operational to allow traffic to pass through, resulting in slow movement. Authorities have since fully reopened the road after clearing the scene.

North West MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Wessels Morweng, expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. He also extended his wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured driver.

“The tragic loss of lives, especially those serving in public safety, is deeply saddening. Our thoughts are with the bereaved families during this difficult time,” Morweng said.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision. More details are expected to be released as investigations progress.
