A joint effort by the integrated Vala Umgodi operations led to the arrest of four suspects on charges of illegal immigration. The suspects were apprehended between Monday, 16 September, and Tuesday, 17 September 2024 near Sun City.

The suspects were arrested for contravening Section 49 (1)(a) of the Immigration Act, (Act No. 13 of 2002), which addresses unlawful entry into the country. They are expected to appear before the Mankwe Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 19 September 2024.

In addition to the arrests, the operation resulted in the confiscation of illegal mining equipment. Authorities have been cracking down on illegal mining activities in the North West, which pose environmental and economic risks. The Vala Umgodi operations are part of a broader initiative to address illegal mining and immigration-related crimes.
Further investigations are underway, and law enforcement has reaffirmed their commitment to curbing illicit activities in the area.
