The Bojanala Platinum District Municipality will this year take the fight against gender-based
violence to the Macharora (Mafenya, Chaneng, Robega and Rasimone) community, just outside Sun
City, in the Rustenburg Local Municipality.

The Executive Mayor of Bojanala Platinum District Municipality, Matlakala Nondzaba, MMCs,
local councillors, other political leaders, various non-governmental organisations, business,
organised labour and community members will lead the march against gender-based violence, which will start in Chaneng village ending at the Robega Community Hall.

The Executive Mayor said the area had been experiencing an increase in gender-based violence.
Councillor Nondzaba said the expansion of the mining industry has resulted in an influx of
opportunity seekers from across the country and the SADC region.
“This has led to all sorts’ of social ills and an increase in gender-based violence. It is therefore
necessary for us to also increase awareness of this scourge among the community but also to
reassure the community that government has plans deal with the scourge and programs to support
victims of gender-based violence and femicide,” said Executive Mayor.
