Heavy Rains Continue to Wreak Havoc Across North West Province

Disruptive rainfall continues to wreak havoc across all four districts of the North West Province, with the South African Weather Service (SAWS) warning that the downpours will persist until Thursday.

In Mahikeng, several roads have been flooded due to a poor water drainage system, leading to road closures in the town. Traffic has been redirected to alternative routes as authorities work to manage the situation.

Residents of Signal Hill village are also bearing the brunt of the relentless rainfall, with reports of houses being waterlogged. In Bodibe village, some mud houses have sustained partial damage, leaving affected families in a vulnerable position.

To assist those in need, the National Department of Human Settlements has approved 20 temporary residential units for Bodibe, with additional units being processed to aid affected residents in other parts of the province.

Authorities are urging pedestrians and motorists to exercise extreme caution when traveling on flooded roads, as heavy rains continue to pose a risk to safety. Disaster management teams remain on high alert and are actively monitoring the situation to provide necessary assistance where needed.

Residents are encouraged to report any emergencies to their local disaster management centers.
