The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for heavy on-and-off showers expected to hit parts of the North West Province, northern Free State, Gauteng Highveld, and southwestern Limpopo from Sunday, 16 February, to Wednesday, 19 February 2025.

The anticipated heavy rainfall, ranging between 20 and 50 millimetres, could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas, affecting roads, bridges, and other vulnerable infrastructure. Residents in flat plains and flood-prone areas are urged to stay alert as disruptive rain is expected across the central and eastern regions of South Africa.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution as wet and slippery roads may pose hazards, and reduced visibility could impact driving conditions. The SAWS has particularly warned about travel disruptions in the areas labeled A in their latest weather map, where the risk of flooding is highest.

The persistent rainfall is attributed to the transport of moist tropical air from a continental low-pressure system over Botswana, which has resulted in widespread cloud cover and showers. The overcast conditions will also contribute to cooler daytime temperatures over the affected regions.

Residents are encouraged to monitor official weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Authorities may issue further warnings if conditions worsen.
