Help Police Find Illegal Mining Kingpin “Tiger” Following Escape

Authorities have launched an intensive manhunt for James Neo Tshoaeli, a Lesotho national known as “Tiger,” who is alleged to be a kingpin in illegal mining operations in Stilfontein. According to police reports, Tshoaeli, who resurfaced from shaft 11 last week, was never formally booked into custody despite being identified by witnesses as a notorious figure in underground mining activities.

North West MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Wessels Morweng, expressed outrage and disappointment over the incident.

“This is an embarrassment that cannot be tolerated,” said Morweng. “When you consider the resources allocated to eradicate illegal mining activities, which have so far yielded significant successes, the news of this escape is a shock.”

Tshoaeli is accused of being a brutal enforcer within the illegal mining networks, allegedly controlling operations with violence. A video in police possession reportedly shows him torturing, assaulting, and even withholding food from other miners to maintain control underground.

Morweng further emphasized the danger posed by Tshoaeli and called on the public to assist law enforcement in bringing him to justice.

“Members of the public must report any sightings of Tiger to the nearest police station. He is dangerous and a fugitive who must face the consequences of his actions,” Morweng urged.

The MEC also issued a stern warning to any law enforcement officers who may have assisted in Tshoaeli’s escape.

“The fact remains that there are many good police officers out there, but if any are found aiding Tiger, they must face harsh consequences. We cannot tolerate such individuals in our ranks – they have chosen the wrong career path,” he concluded.

Illegal mining remains a pressing issue in the North West Province, with efforts ongoing to dismantle criminal networks that exploit the region’s mineral resources. The public is urged to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of Tshoaeli, who is considered armed and dangerous.

Police investigations continue.
