High-tech cop cars to monitor major North West roads

The MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari has welcomed 30 new highly powered vehicles, fitted with incredible technological advancements. The fleet will be used in a new unit within the department which will deal specifically to monitor and enforce compliance on major road on 24/7 basis.

Speaking at the welcome event MEC Lehari announced that the new unit will be officially launched in August this year.

“The department has made a commitment to make the safety of our people a priority. The vehicles will enable us to effectively deal with lawlessness on our roads, particularly on those that have proven to be hotspots of fatalities,” said MEC Lehari.

The fleet of cars will be used by law enforcement officials to patrol the national roads in the province.

The event was also an opportunity to welcome 51 new traffic official recruits who completed their Diplomas in Road Traffic Management in December last year.

“I am impressed with the level of discipline that our new recruits have displayed, from the first day of their training to the last.

“Their determination will significantly improve the quality of our law enforcement,” said MEC Lehari.
