The African National Congress (ANC) has intensified its January 8 Statement build-up activities in the North West with a high-profile courtesy visit to Kgosi Nyalala Pilane of the Bakgatla ba Kgafela.
ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa, accompanied by the party’s National Officials, is scheduled to undertake the visit on Monday, 05 January 2026, as part of engagements ahead of the ANC’s major annual event to be held at Moruleng Stadium on Saturday, 10 January 2025.
The ANC said the courtesy visit is in line with African customs and traditions, which require that traditional leaders be formally consulted and informed before major political activities take place within their areas of jurisdiction. The engagement reflects the party’s continued respect for traditional leadership and its role in governance, social cohesion and community development.
The visit will take place after a meeting of the ANC National Executive Committee (NEC), which will be convened earlier in the day. Following the courtesy visit, the ANC leadership will also engage with traditional leaders from across the North West Province.
According to the updated programme, the day’s activities will unfold as follows:
10:00 – ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) Meeting
15:00 – Courtesy Visit to Kgosi Nyalala Pilane (Bakgatla ba Kgafela)
16:30 – Engagement with Traditional
Leaders of the North West Province
ANC heavyweights have already descended on the province as political activities gain momentum ahead of the January 8 Statement. The Moruleng event is expected to attract thousands of supporters, alliance partners and community members, where the party will outline its priorities and political programme for the year ahead.
