Zeerust residents are set to engage directly with the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, during a Community Imbizo focused on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) and maintenance matters.
The imbizo will take place on Tuesday, 06 January 2026, as part of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development’s ongoing efforts to strengthen community participation in addressing social justice challenges.
According to the department, the Minister’s visit aims to raise awareness on the prevention and combating of GBVF, while also addressing challenges related to maintenance, an issue that continues to affect many families, particularly women and children.
The programme will begin with a breakfast engagement with traditional leaders at 08h00 at the Protea Hotel in Mahikeng. This session underscores the important role traditional leadership plays in community governance, conflict resolution, and the fight against gender-based violence.
Later in the day, the Minister will proceed to a Community Imbizo at 12h00 at the Zeerust Town Hall, where members of the public will have an opportunity to raise concerns, seek clarity on justice services, and engage government directly on GBVF and maintenance-related issues.
The department said the imbizo forms part of government’s broader commitment to ensuring access to justice, strengthening accountability, and working with communities to build safer environments.
Community members are encouraged to attend and actively participate in the discussions, as government continues to prioritise the fight against gender-based violence and the protection of vulnerable groups.
