In a dramatic breakthrough, Kanana police arrested four men in connection with the brutal triple murder of three males aged between 25 and 38. The arrests followed an intense investigation after a violent altercation at a tavern in Extension 3, Kanana, on the evening of Saturday, 18 January 2025.

According to police reports, the incident began as a fight between groups of Basotho nationals at the tavern. The altercation escalated, with one group overpowering the other and forcibly abducting five victims. The suspects allegedly drove the victims to the Schoonspruit River, where they assaulted them. While one victim managed to escape during the ordeal, the remaining four were thrown into the river. Of these, one managed to swim to safety, but the other three tragically went missing.

After working tirelessly to identify the perpetrators, police arrested Mosweu Letsie (32), Tumisang Khoachone (21), Tshidiso Mohloboli (18), and Itumeleng Mosweunyane (24). The suspects appeared before the Orkney Magistrates’ Court between Monday, 20 January, and Wednesday, 22 January 2025, on charges of murder, kidnapping, and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH).

The court remanded all four suspects in custody pending a formal bail application, scheduled for Monday, 27 January 2025.
The police have been commended for their swift action in apprehending the suspects. Investigations are ongoing to recover the bodies of the three missing victims and bring justice to their grieving families.

Community members have expressed shock and outrage over the incident, calling for stricter measures to curb violence in the area.
