Killer Mphela Easter Games Hailed a Success

The Killer Mphela Easter Games were hailed as a resounding success, with organisers, players, and community members all celebrating a weekend filled with sporting talent and community spirit. Held at the Brits Sport Grounds, the tournament featured football and netball matches and attracted teams from various areas.

Founded by renowned former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana striker Katlego “Killer” Mphela, the tournament showcased rising young talent and drew large crowds from across Madibeng and beyond.

Mphela, visibly elated with the turnout and level of competition, expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support. “Seeing so many young players showcase their skills and the community coming together like this is what we envisioned when we started this initiative,” he said.

The Acting Executive Mayor of Madibeng Local Municipality, Cllr Khumo Morare, also praised the tournament and the work of the Killer Mphela Foundation.

“Bravo to the Foundation and Katlego for staging such a successful tournament,” said Morare. “It was evident over the past three days that sport plays an integral role in building society. The support from parents and the community at large was overwhelming. We need more of these initiatives, and it’s for this reason that we are resuscitating the Mayor’s Cup Sport Tournament, which will commence in due course.”

In the football competition, Oukasie United clinched the U-19 category title after a tense penalty shootout win over Letlhabile Football Academy. Euphoria from Akasia emerged victorious in the U-17 category, defeating Brits Soccer Academy, while Letlhabile Football Academy claimed the U-15 crown with a win over Oukasie United.

The Killer Mphela Easter Games continue to grow in stature, proving to be a vital platform for nurturing local sporting talent and promoting unity through sport.
