Madibeng Local Municipality’s Ward 17 was a hive of activity on Wednesday, 14 August 2024, as Executive Mayor Douglas Maimane led the Thuntsa Lerole programme, an initiative aimed at improving community infrastructure and cleanliness.

One of the key highlights of the day was the official opening of the newly paved Polonia Road, a project that has been eagerly awaited by the residents. The mayor praised the excellent workmanship evident in the paving, noting that such projects demonstrate the municipality’s commitment to enhancing the lives of the local community. “We appreciate the good work done on these two projects. This goes down to show how we genuinely value our people who are the recipients and beneficiaries of these projects,” said Maimane.

The day’s activities also included a walkabout at ongoing projects, such as the construction of the Mmakau Library and the installation of boreholes, both of which are set to provide significant benefits to the area. Additionally, efforts were made to maintain the local cemetery, repair gravel roads, and clean up the Mmakau/Ramogodi sections by removing litter and illegal dumping sites.

While celebrating the progress, Maimane also took the opportunity to address the unfortunate issue of vandalism that has plagued municipal facilities. He specifically pointed out the Mmakau Community Hall, which shares a yard with the new library, as an example of this destructive behavior. The Executive Mayor condemned these acts, emphasizing the importance of protecting community assets.
The Thuntsa Lerole programme continues to be a beacon of hope and progress for the residents of Madibeng, with the municipality demonstrating its ongoing commitment to improving living conditions and infrastructure in the area.
