Magalies Water announced the appointment of Sibongiseni Mbadamana as its new General Manager for Projects and Engineering Services (PES), a move aimed at strengthening technical expertise and capacity within its management team.
Mbadamana assumes his new role following changes in Magalies Water’s executive structure, resulting in the amalgamation of two former positions within the executive levels of management: General Manager – Project Management Unit (PMU) and General Manager – Engineering Services (ES). This reconfigured role comes as Magalies Water expands its service area mandate to cover the entire North West province.

The appointment of Mr. Mbadamana comes after the Ministry of Water Sanitation removed the moratorium on executive appointments, further accelerated by the disestablishment of the erstwhile Sedibeng Water. This move saw Sedibeng Water’s North West operations and staff transferred to Magalies Water.
Bringing with him a wealth of skills and experience, Mr. Mbadamana previously served as Sedibeng Water’s Operations and Maintenance Superintendent in Vaal Gamagara, Northern Cape, and later as Regional Manager for Ngaka Modiri Molema. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and has over 15 years of relevant experience in water and sanitation.

Throughout his career, Mr. Mbadamana has held various positions in both the public and private sectors, including roles at the Department of Water Affairs, Concor Civils, Element Consulting Engineers, and Amatola Water Board. He is currently studying towards his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) and is registered as a Professional Engineering Technologist with ECSA, a member of SAICE, and a Candidate Construction Project Manager with SACPCMP.
With his extensive background in water infrastructure management and community engagement, Mr. Mbadamana is well-equipped to lead Magalies Water’s PES division. He has a keen focus on ensuring access to clean water for all, particularly in underserved communities.

Reacting to his appointment, Mr. Mbadamana expressed his commitment to ensuring the stability and effectiveness of the newly reconfigured division. “My goal is to ensure that we operate as a well-resourced business unit within the organization, addressing all inherent challenges,” he said. He also highlighted priorities such as the completion of incomplete projects and the implementation of the Bulk Water and Sanitation Master Plan to address water and sanitation challenges in the expanded service area.
Mr. Mbadamana’s appointment marks a significant step forward for Magalies Water as it continues to expand its operations and fulfill its mandate of providing sustainable water and sanitation services to communities across the North West province.
