Mahikeng POP Arrests Suspect for Possession of Suspected Stolen Livestock

The vigilance of Mahikeng Public Order Policing (POP) members led to the arrest of a 58-year-old man on Friday, 31 January 2025, for the possession of suspected stolen livestock.

The arrest occurred during routine patrol duties along the N18 (Vryburg/Mahikeng) road when officers noticed a white Toyota Hilux bakkie with a canopy parked near a filling station in Montshiwastad village. Suspicious of the vehicle, the officers conducted a search and discovered 18 goats, valued at R27,000.

The driver, identified as Tshokolo Kolobe, was unable to provide a proper account of the goats and was immediately apprehended.

Kolobe appeared before the Molopo Magistrates’ Court in Mmabatho on Monday, 3 February 2025, and was remanded in custody. Investigations into the matter are ongoing to determine the origins of the livestock and establish any links to livestock theft in the region.

The Mahikeng POP members have been commended for their vigilance and dedication to combating livestock theft, a prevalent crime affecting local farmers. Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activities to help curb such incidents.
