In the wake of persistent heavy rainfall affecting various regions of the North West Province, the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management issues a crucial advisory for motorists and road users to exercise extreme caution, particularly in flooded and misty areas.

Motorists are urged to adopt a safety-first approach by driving at reduced speeds with headlights on. Additionally, cyclists and pedestrians are requested to enhance their visibility by wearing reflective clothing.

MEC for the Department Community Safety and Roads Management, Sello Lehari emphasizes the importance of adhering to road rules to prevent unnecessary accidents, especially during the ongoing festive season.

“As we are still in the midst of the festive season, we urge motorists to comply with and cooperate with law enforcement agencies,” stated MEC Lehari. He emphasized that the combination of rain and the resultant slippery roads necessitates a significant reduction in driving speed.

Certain areas in the province are experiencing misty weather, prompting the department to advise drivers to keep their headlights on for increased visibility. MEC Lehari also emphasized the need for avoiding abrupt braking and sudden turns.

Law enforcement and road safety officers will be actively present in these challenging conditions, with a plea for motorists to cooperate and contribute to ensuring everyone’s safety on the roads.

“As we approach the end of the festive season, increased traffic is expected, especially as people return from holidays and schools reopen for the 2024 academic year. Our collective responsibility is to ensure that everyone reaches their destinations safely,” concluded MEC Lehari.
