MEC Motsumi Commends Smooth Progress of Matric Exams – Day 3

The North West MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi, has expressed satisfaction with the smooth progress of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations, which entered their third day today Thursday 23 October 2025 with learners writing English Paper 3.

MEC Motsumi visited Mphe-Bana Secondary School in Koster to monitor the examination process and motivate the 189 matric candidates sitting for the paper. The visit forms part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to ensure that examinations are conducted under strict compliance and that learners receive the necessary support during this critical period.

Following the examination session, Motsumi convened a meeting with the School Management Team (SMT) and the School Governing Body (SGB) to discuss a new strategy aimed at improving learner performance through a focused incubation programme.

The incubation process, scheduled to start on Sunday, 26 October 2025, will provide intensive academic support to all candidates. The Department plans to deploy subject advisors to Mphe-Bana Secondary to strengthen the teaching and learning process, especially since the school’s performance has been below the 80% threshold throughout the academic year.

Motsumi emphasised the importance of collaboration between educators and parents to ensure the success of the initiative.

“The incubation camp will allow teachers to dedicate more time to curriculum delivery while parents partner with the school to foster a conducive environment for learners,” said Motsumi. “We remain committed to supporting every candidate and will continue to monitor the examination processes until the last paper is written.”

The MEC’s visit also served as a morale booster for learners, reaffirming the Department’s commitment to improving matric results and ensuring fair and credible examinations across the province.

Candidates are next scheduled to write Afrikaans Paper 3, a three-hour examination, on Friday, 24 October 2025
