MEC Motsumi Takes Action to Address Challenges at Masamane Primary School

North West MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi, visited Masamane Primary School on Thursday, February 1st, 2024, to tackle pressing administrative and infrastructural issues plaguing the institution.

The school has grappled with various challenges, including the disbandment of the School Governing Body (SGB), urgent staffing needs for General Assistants (AAs) and Administrative Assistants (GAs), inadequate water supply, substandard ablution facilities, incomplete classroom blocks, and a partially constructed kitchen.

During her visit, MEC Motsumi engaged with parents and the tribal council, acknowledging the pivotal role played by the latter in facilitating collaboration with a local businessman to expedite water provision to the school. Expressing her gratitude for the community’s proactive intervention, MEC Motsumi emphasized the importance of collective effort in creating conducive learning environments for children.

“I am encouraged by the collaborative spirit demonstrated by the Masamane community in addressing the school’s challenges. Together, we can ensure a conducive learning environment for our children. Our department remains committed to providing the necessary support to achieve this goal,” stated MEC Motsumi.

Affirming her dedication to ensuring quality education for all learners in the province, MEC Motsumi reassured stakeholders of ongoing efforts to find solutions and closely monitor progress.

Although water is now accessible at the school, it is undergoing rigorous testing to verify its safety for human consumption. Additionally, a decision was reached to appoint a new contractor to finalize the outstanding construction projects, as the contract with the current service provider has expired.

Furthermore, plans are underway to conduct new elections for the School Governing Body (SGB) during the national SGB elections scheduled between March 1st and 31st, 2024. Parents and community members received assurances regarding the appointment of a service provider to complete the construction of ablution facilities, the kitchen, and a classroom block.

MEC Motsumi’s visit signals a proactive step towards addressing the challenges faced by Masamane Primary School, underscoring the commitment of the provincial government to prioritize education and infrastructure development in the region.
