Mogwase Court Hands Down 10-Year Sentence for Mokgalwaneng Rape Conviction

The Mogwase Regional Court has sentenced 22-year-old Kgololosego Moalusi to 10 years of direct imprisonment after he was found guilty of rape.

The conviction stems from an incident that occurred in the early hours of 7 August 2022 in Mokgalwaneng village. According to court evidence, the 26-year-old victim was walking home from a tavern at approximately 04:00 AM when Moalusi attacked her. Armed with a knife, he threatened and sexually assaulted her in the street before fleeing the scene.

Sergeant Mzinyathi of the Mogwase Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit led the investigation, ensuring Moalusi was arrested and prosecuted. His efforts, along with the prosecution team, resulted in a successful conviction.

Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae commended the law enforcement officers involved, highlighting the SAPS’s commitment to combating gender-based violence. She urged community members to continue reporting such crimes, reaffirming the police service’s dedication to bringing perpetrators to justice.

The sentencing has been welcomed by activists and local residents, who see it as a step forward in addressing crimes against women in the region.
