The Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM) in the North West has praised the rapid apprehension of 10 suspects linked to the recent murders at a Kanana tavern and in Freedom Park. The shocking incidents, which occurred over the weekend, claimed 13 lives and left communities in a state of anxiety and grief.
The suspects were captured shortly after the two unrelated shooting events by a multi-disciplinary team of detectives. They are expected to appear in their respective court jurisdictions soon.

The MRM believes that these commendable actions will restore public confidence in both policing and the criminal justice system. “This is a welcomed relief as the shocking incidents of senseless violence had raised anxiety levels within the respective communities, which are still reeling with shock. The recovery of firearms and 82 rounds of ammunition suggests that had they remained on the loose, more lives could have been lost,” remarked Pastor Lesiba Kgwele, Convenor of the Moral Regeneration Movement Provincial Interim Committee.
Pastor Kgwele also called on the courts to deny bail to the suspects when they appear before them, sending a strong message that those involved in such heinous acts have no place in society. “Their successful prosecution and conviction will bolster police morale, encourage local action to defeat crime syndicates run by ruthless criminals that have no regard for the sanctity and value of human lives,” he said.
He further stressed the need for continuous pressure on criminals. “Criminals must be kept on their backfoot, forever looking over their shoulders and on the run. Policing in crime hotspots must be targeted towards flushing criminals out of their hiding places through intensified saturation efforts. No hole must be big or deep enough for them to hide,” Kgwele added.
Kgwele emphasized that a stronger partnership between police and communities is crucial to winning the war against lawlessness and criminality, ultimately creating safer communities.
