Mothotlung Community Unites Against GBV in Outreach Led by Hon. Masello Senne

Masello Senne, a public representative at the Madibeng Parliamentary Constituency Office (PCO), in partnership with the Madibeng Constituency Management Committee, hosted a powerful outreach program focused on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) on Monday, 5 May 2025, at the Mothotlung Community Hall.

The program specifically targeted the Mothotlung/Mmakau cluster, identified through consultations with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Department of Social Development, based on reported crime statistics. The event aimed to raise awareness, encourage community involvement, and reinforce collaborative efforts in tackling GBV.

Among the distinguished guests were the Speaker of Council from Madibeng Local Municipality, SAPS FCS representative Warrant Officer Clifford Mokone, and Ward Councillors from the cluster including Hlanganani Mathonsi (Ward 17), Tshediso Mokonoto (Ward 20), and Peter Mokau (Ward 21).

Other stakeholders in attendance included representatives from COGTA/CDW, the Moral Regeneration Movement’s Moses Lesiba Kgwele, the Elandsrand Men’s Forum represented by Joel Dube and Sipho Sethole, and the Department of Social Development’s Rachel Lekgothoane. The Faith-Based Fraternity, the Mothotlung Network Against Domestic Violence and Child Abuse led by Lebo Bogopane, ward committees, and the CPF & CSF Chairperson MMC Peter Legong were also present.

A central highlight of the program was a collective pledge taken by all men present, committing to active participation in ending GBV and answering the call for societal change. The pledge symbolized a united stance by male community leaders, faith representatives, and civic groups against the persistent violence faced by women and children.

Attendees also reflected on progressive legislation passed by Parliament to address gender inequality and GBV, emphasizing the strides South Africa continues to make in securing justice and equality for all citizens.
