Kgora Farmer Training Centre’s 52 National Youth Service Corps (NARYSEC) beneficiaries are participating in an educational excursion to Batlhako Temo Services Farm, a citrus farm located in Brits. This excursion is part of their ongoing training under the NARYSEC programme, a youth skills development and employment initiative spearheaded by the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform.

Since their arrival at the Kgora Farmer Training Centre on 14 February 2024, these learners have been receiving tailor-made training focused on the technical skills essential for primary agriculture. Their journey at Kgora will conclude on 03 September 2024.

The primary objective of this training is to equip the NARYSEC beneficiaries with the necessary skills to become self-reliant and actively involved in the farming community. Agriculture is seen as a key sector in addressing poverty and unemployment, with the skills shortage being a significant barrier to economic growth, social development, and sustainable employment.
Through initiatives like these, the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform aims to empower the youth to contribute meaningfully to the agricultural sector and the broader economy. The excursion to Batlhako Temo Services Farm serves as a practical extension of their classroom learning, offering hands-on experience in citrus farming operations.
This experience is expected to significantly enhance their prospects of becoming successful farmers and entrepreneurs in the future.
