The Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Basetsana R Dantjie presided over a Special House Sitting where Lina Miga was elected through a secret ballot as the new Deputy Speaker of the Legislature, and through a show of hands, Kabelo Mataboge was elected as the Chairperson of Chairpersons of Committees. All members of the different political parties represented in the Legislature were present and participated at the election that was held during the Legislature House Sitting in the Legislature Chamber.

Miga is the former MEC for the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs whilst Mataboge is the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Education, Arts, Culture and Sports Recreation. Miga said she is delighted and happy with the responsibility given to her of being the Deputy Speaker. “My organisation trusts and believes in my leadership abilities hence I was deployed to the legislature and I will ensure that the function of the legislature is carried with dignity and honour,” said Miga.
Mataboge said although the task of being the Chairperson of Committees is complex, there will be proper oversight over the Executive which will ensure service delivery for the people of the North West Province.
Madam Speaker, Dantjie, welcomed the two Members on their newly elected positions and wished them well in ensuring that there is accountability in the North West government.
