MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements, and Traditional Affairs, Patrick Dumile Nono Maloyi, has assumed the role of Acting North West Premier. Premier Kaobitsa Bushy Maape is reportedly facing health challenges, leading to his temporary absence from official duties.

MEC Maloyi has been effectively managing the province in Premier Maape’s stead and has also represented the government at significant functions as the Leader of Business in the North West. This transition in leadership comes as Premier Maape is set to undergo medical treatment in Thailand, following the advice and referral of his doctor. Premier Maape’s absence is expected to extend from January 21 to January 31, 2024.

The formal appointment of MEC Maloyi as Acting Premier took place with a swearing-in ceremony administered by Judge President Ronald Hendricks of the North West Division. This move ensures a seamless continuation of governance in the province during Premier Maape’s temporary incapacity.

The Office of the Premier said it has officially communicated Premier Maape’s travel and medical situation, sending formal notifications to both the President and the Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature. The province remains committed to transparent communication and the smooth functioning of government affairs during this period of leadership transition.
