Maloyi’s appointment as Acting Premier comes as no surprise, given his recurrent role in assuming the position.

The Office of the Premier has confirmed that Maloyi will continue his duties as Acting Premier until March 10, 2024. This appointment aligns with constitutional provisions, as stipulated in Chapter 6, Section 131(1)(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. Premier Kaobitsa Bushy Maape has formally entrusted MEC Patrick Dumile Nono Maloyi with the responsibilities of Acting Premier, effective from February 19, 2024.

In his capacity as Acting Premier, MEC Maloyi is mandated to fulfill all obligations outlined in the Constitution. This includes overseeing the affairs of the province and addressing pertinent issues in his forthcoming State of the Province address.
