During the State of the Province Address today, North West Acting Premier Nono Maloyi unveiled significant progress in water infrastructure projects aimed at addressing water provision challenges in various communities across the province.

A key highlight of the address was the announcement that the Brits Water Treatment Plant is set to be completed by May of this year. This milestone will add twenty mega-litres of water capacity, ensuring improved water provision in communities including Oukasi, Mothotlung, Damonsville, Mmankau, Brits town, Elandsrand, Letlhabile, and Sonop.

Furthermore, Maloyi reported that the pipeline from Mafenya to Tlhabane is on track for completion in April. Additionally, the Tlhabane reservoir, boasting a capacity of twenty-five mega-litres, is nearing completion, with a handover expected within the next two weeks.

In response to water challenges in Mahikeng, additional boreholes have been drilled and equipped for both the Rooigrond Waste Water Treatment Plant and Water Augmentation project. Maloyi acknowledged the plight of communities such as Ramosadi and Seweding, which have endured sewer spillage in recent months. To address this issue, a contractor has been mobilized to complete the construction of a new pipeline, funded by the Ngaka Modiri Molema District.

The Acting Premier also reassured residents of Tigane and Hartebeesfontein that water leaks have been rectified, leading to stable water supply in these areas.
In a bid to further augment water supply, construction commenced last September on a water pipeline from Pudumoe to Huhudi, with an investment exceeding R200 million.

Maloyi concluded the address by emphasizing the government’s commitment to prioritizing water infrastructure development to ensure access to clean and reliable water for all communities in the North West Province.
As these projects near completion, residents eagerly anticipate the tangible improvements they will bring to their daily lives, marking a significant step forward in addressing water provision challenges in the region.
