North West Education Concludes SASCE Music Championship with 10 Trophies

The North West Department of Education has wrapped up the 2025 ABC Motsepe South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod (SASCE) music championship with an impressive haul of 10 trophies.

The national competition, held at Rhema Bible Church in Randburg from 01-04 July 2025, saw the province represented by a contingent of 19 schools and 26 choirs competing in 26 categories. Learners from General Education and Training (GET) to Further Education and Training (FET) showcased their musical talents alongside participants from other provinces.

The North West Department of Education achieved the following results:

  • Reoleboge Special School from Moruleng Village in Moses Kotane Local Municipality secured first position in the Special Schools (SID), Own Choice category.
  • Kamogelo Primary School from Migdol under Mamusa Local Municipality obtained second position in the Boys Choirs category.
  • Ikalafeng Special School from Ikageng Township in JB Marks Local Municipality came first in the Special School (SID) category.
  • Kebonang Secondary School from Mafikeng, Unit 14, in Mafikeng Local Municipality earned second position in the Mixed Choirs (African) category.
  • Mampho Secondary School from Migdol in Mamusa Local Municipality achieved third position in the Mixed Double Quartet (Farm & Small Schools) category.
  • Matlosana Secondary School from Jouberton Township in Matlosana Local Municipality came third in the Male Choir category.
  • Ms Neo Mukamu, Choir Conductor from Kebonang Secondary School in Mafikeng, was declared the Best Conductor of the 2025 ABC Motsepe SASCE.
  • Holland Khumo, a learner from Botoka Secondary School in Ikageng Township, JB Marks Local Municipality, took first position in the Baritone Solo category.
  • Motheo Moretiemang from Onkabetse-Thuto Secondary School in Setlagole Village achieved third position in the Tenor Solo – Mattinata category.
  • Reoikantse Mogorosi, a Grade 12 learner from Batswana Commercial Secondary School, obtained second position in the Soprano Solo category.

North West MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi, congratulated all the winning schools for their achievements.

“On behalf of the Department, I take this opportunity to congratulate all the winning schools. A special thank you goes to our teachers, learners, parents, and all stakeholders for making this activity a success,” said MEC Motsumi.

She emphasised the department’s commitment to promoting arts and culture in schools.

“This achievement by our schools showcases the department’s commitment to promoting arts and culture in schools. Next year, we want to see many schools participating at the national level. Those schools that did not make it to the higher positions should not despair but try again next year,” she said.

MEC Motsumi also wished all schools a safe journey back to their respective areas.
