North West MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi, on Wednesday met with provincial winners of the 2025 National Teaching Awards (NTA), alongside 2024 national winners and teacher mentors, during a capacity-building workshop held at Bon Hotel in Rustenburg.

The workshop was designed to prepare this year’s provincial champions as they head to the national competition scheduled for October. It created a platform for sharing experiences, strategies, and inspiration between current and former winners.
MEC Motsumi expressed pride in the achievements of the provincial educators and underscored the importance of celebrating teaching excellence.

“Our teachers remain the heartbeat in building the future of our province and our children. It is important that we support and encourage them as they compete at the national level. Bringing trophies home will not only be a victory for them, but also inspire other teachers to excel in their roles,” she said.
She further urged the provincial winners to continue demonstrating innovation and excellence in their classrooms, stressing that their commitment has a ripple effect on learner performance across the province.
The workshop also gave the 2025 provincial winners an opportunity to engage with 2024 NTA national winners, who shared valuable guidance on how to excel at the highest level.
North West has consistently performed well at the NTAs, securing 58% of the national awards in 2024. With that track record, the department is optimistic about this year’s prospects and wished the provincial representatives success in bringing further glory to the province.
